The Woodward Median Enhancement Project is a cooperative improvement project being conducted by the cities of Birmingham, Berkley, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, and Royal Oak, along with the Woodward Avenue Action Association, local businesses, and the Oakland County Road Commission. The goal of the project is to revitalize and beautify the Woodward Avenue corridor between 8 Mile Road and Quarton Road by incorporating landscaping changes utilizing native plant materials such as canopy trees, shrubs, perennials, and grasses. Other possibilities include public art, fountains, and a more decorative light pole design. The project was begun in late 1993, with the Woodward Avenue Corridor Study and will be ongoing as budget allows.
