Pursuant to the Birmingham City Code, sections 70-41 through 70-47, lost and unclaimed property is held by the Police Department for a specific period of time, typically six months. Bicycles are held for 45 days.

Automobile & Property Auctions

Out-of-service equipment and property which remains unclaimed after the expiration of the applicable holding period is then sold via online auction throughout the year. For information regarding the online auction program, please visit the Surplus Auction section.
