The next City Commission and Library Board Election will take place on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. The ballot will offer choices to voters for City Commission members and Library Board Trustees.

FILING DEADLINE –  City Commission & Library Board

The City Charter of the City of Birmingham states:  “No person shall be eligible to the office of City Commission or Library Board who shall not be an elector in the City and who has not been a resident of the City for at least one (1) year prior to his election.”

The deadline to file petitions to become a candidate for City Commission or Library Board is 4:00 pm, 15 weeks prior to the election. Petitions forms can be obtained at the City Clerk’s Office Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 pm.

The State (MCL 168.544f) requires not less that 40 and not more than 100 signatures of registered voters of the City of Birmingham.  (All signatures must be collected within the 180 days prior to the filing deadline. Signatures collected more than 180 days prior to the filing deadline are invalid.)
