Police Services

The Police Department will provide the following services during normal business hours, which are 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, legal holidays excluded. Call 248.530.1870 for additional information regarding Police Department Services.

In addition to the services offered by the Birmingham Police Department, there are a number of Victim Assistance Programs in the area to assist those who have been the victim of a crime.

Accident/Incident Report Copies
Copies are available at $5.00 per report. Please have important information such as complaint numbers, location of incident, and date when making inquiries about reports. Accident reports are available from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the police department clerical area. For telephone inquiries, dial 248.530.1873. Please note that a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request will be required to obtain copies of documents.

Accident reports are also available online at www.clemis.org. There is a charge of $13.00 per report.

Bicycle Registration/Licenses
Bicycles can be registered with the Police Department from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge.

FOIA Requests
Police reports can be acquired by completing a Freedom of Information Act request through the City Clerk's Office. There is a $5 charge for basic incident reports, but additional fees may apply.

Meter Bag Requests
Meter bags may be purchased from the Police Department for Special Event and Construction purposes. Meter bags are $18 per day along with a $20 refundable deposit per bag and are issued at the discretion of the Patrol Commander.

Applications For Concealed Weapons Permits
Application packets are available on Oakland County's website. Completed packets are submitted to the Oakland County Clerk's Office for processing.

Permits For Applications For Purchase Of Firearms*
Service available to residents only from 11:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M (please arrive by 2:30 P.M.). A valid Michigan driver's license with current address is required in order to obtain a permit to purchase firearms. Informational materials related to gun permit written examination are available for review prior to test.

Graffiti Removal
Graffiti consists of inscriptions, slogans and drawings scratched or painted on walls or on other public or private surfaces. Graffiti is vandalism. It is malicious destruction of property. The City of Birmingham endeavors to keep all walls, buildings, fences, signs and other structures and surfaces visible from the public right-of-way free of graffiti.

If you see graffiti on public or private property, please report it immediately. To initiate abatement of graffiti in the community, please contact the Department of Public Services at 248.530.1700. City crews will remove graffiti from public and private property in the business district.

Drug Testing Kits*
Free drug testing kits are available to Birmingham residents over the age of 21. Our department's drug testing program allows testing for marijuana, cocaine, opiates, amphetamines, methamphetamines, benzodiazepine, barbituate, and oxycontin. Take home kits are available at the front desk of the Birmingham Police Department. There is no charge.
